The Samurai range of rods are light, responsive, pack plenty of power and are suitable for a range of species. Most of the time I find myself using the Samurai Estuary series as I generally chase bream, flathead, estuary perch and mulloway. However, on occasion I need to beef things up a bit, that’s when I choose a Samurai from the Bluewater series.
My favourite spin rod in this range is the 302 in the 6 to 12lb class described as a fast taper, although I would say that this rod is closer to a medium taper. I use this rod whether I’m spinning or bait fishing for bigger mulloway, snapper, bass and yellow belly; although I know some guys use it for rack fishing for bream.
I find that its light enough to cast all day, either single handed or double handed and has enough backbone for anything that I am likely to encounter. So if you are looking for a light yet powerful rod with plenty of casting power have a go at the Samurai 302.
